Government multi-media censorship has quarantined China. Many books have been redacted or completely banned in China if the content negatively reflects Chinese culture or talks negatively about government policies. The banned biography ‘Wild swans’, is an account of three generations of Chinese women: Chang’s grandmother, her mother, and Chang herself, a former Red Guard who eventually moved to England. The criticisms that Chang develops through her own family history - charting the uprising of the Communist Party of China - has influenced the architectural deconstruction of the most notable endeavors of Communist time; the National Museum of China (NMC). The result is the partial deconstruction of the NMC, which carved a new landscape underneath the building.
